There are two programs of Cal Grant, a student can apply: the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the California Dream Act. Generally, the student should submit a verified senior-year high school grade and maintain at least half-time enrollment status. The following are the basic criteria the applicant should meet to receive Cal Grant:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, eligible noncitizen, or A.B. 540-eligible
  • Must be a resident of California at the time of high school graduate and when receiving the Cal Grant or A.B. 540-eligible student
  • Males should meet U.S. Selective Service requirements
  • Must be enrolled in and attended a Cal Grant-eligible California School
  • Has met the minimum GPA requirements of either program
  • Should be in a program leading to an undergraduate degree or certificate

The CSAC said the approved student could be eligible to either of the three Cal Grant types – A, B, and C. The eligibility will be based on the following: result from FAFSA or C.A. Dream Act Application, verified Cal Grant GPA, whether you’re a recent high school graduate and the type of colleges you list on your application.
