CalWORKs is a public assistance program that provides services and financial boosts to eligible households with dependents or children. This program is run across the 58 counties in California by county welfare agencies.

Who is Eligible for CalWORKs?

The official California Department of Social Services posted the qualification guideline for CalWORKs. In brief, a household might qualify for immediate short-term assistance if they are in need of clothing, food, utilities, medical care, or housing; but have little to no cash on hand. Eligible families will receive a monthly payment to help with food, housing, and other necessities.

Current or former CalWORKs recipients are qualified to receive assistance with childcare benefits from a provider of their choice. Pregnant and parenting teens in the Cal-Learn program also qualify for CalWORKs childcare. Childcare service is provided for children until 12 years old and severely disabled children up to 21 years old.

Households, where the principal earner is unemployed, are also eligible for CalWORKs financial assistance. Interested applicants must reach the required citizenship, age, resources, income, and other criteria.

How to Apply for CalWORKs Online?

The program is estimated to benefit around 360,000 families, including 750,000, and most adults are single women of color. Interested applicants can apply through the website BenefitsCal.com or contact the local social services agency in their county.
