Advocates Urge Lawmakers to Advance New Stimulus Check as Omicron Variant Surges

Dollar bills

Some advocates encourage politicians to advance new stimulus checks, particularly for people who have been severely impacted by the soaring inflation as a result of the pandemic.

Previous stimulus check

The IRS provided over 169 million in the third stimulus payments, with most Americans receiving $1,400. But some advocates and legislators want the fourth round of stimulus funding that would be paid until the pandemic ends.

According to CBS News, under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES), which took effect in March 2020, the federal government has paid out $3,200 to eligible adults: $1,200 through that Act, $600 through a December relief measure, and $1,400 from the American Rescue Plan, signed by President Joe Biden in March.

Despite this relief, millions of Americans are still struggling, and the spreading of the Omicron variant is adding to the problem. According to a new Census study conducted during the first two weeks of December, more than one-quarter of Americans fought to pay their bills.

As per the report,  More than 95,000 people have signed a petition from the Senior Citizens League advocating for a one-time $1,400 cheque for seniors.

Call for fourth stimulus check

Despite the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic is still having an effect on the country, a large number of residents in the United States have demanded a fourth stimulus check. However, it appears that the federal government will not provide financial assistance.

According to Marca, there were some senators asking for a regular stimulus check to be sent to help those citizens whose lives were saved by these payments, but state governments, rather than the federal government, are now responsible for the distribution of widespread financial aid.

The idea of sending out a fourth stimulus check has now been challenged because of the rise in inflation, cited as a reason for not sending out another stimulus check.
