Stolen SNAP Benefits this Year
Millions of Americans rely on SNAP benefits to buy their food during the pandemic and higher inflation rate. It helped American families to meet their daily needs. However, millions also were victims of fraud, identity theft, and stolen SNAP benefits.
According to a report, more than $1 million worth of federal dollars intended for SNAP benefits was stolen from the residents in Maryland. Prince George County Police issued a warning in October in relation to the statewide fraud activities. The county police said there were card skimmers at the different convenience stores.
To address this problem, U.S. House Representative Dutch Ruppersberger of Maryland introduced a bill to Congress to reimburse the stolen money of the victims. The bill will amend the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008, according to a report published in WUSA9.
