The first 4,500 teachers who completed the state’s Civics Seal of Excellence endorsement course will receive a $3,000 bonus check
This initiative aims to improve civics education and engagement for students, and participants must have a certified and valid teaching license in Florida to qualify. The course involves studying 53 expert scholars and practitioners and submitting responses, taking an average of 50 hours to complete with two months to do so.
Enrollment for the course is currently at its capacity of 20,000 teachers, with another 14,000 on the waiting list. It is unknown when the first batch of eligible teachers will receive their bonus cash.
In addition to teachers, Florida is offering bonuses to new law enforcement recruits, with over 1,750 officers receiving a $5,000 bonus after taxes under the Recruitment Bonus Program. Outside of Florida, other states are offering residents cash rebates, such as New Mexico, which is offering residents rebates worth up to $1,000 if they are over the age of 18 and not claimed as a dependent on taxes.
Over 900,000 taxpayers are eligible to receive this payment, which will be distributed in June
Colorado is also offering a Property Tax, Rent, Heat Credit (PTC) Rebate worth up to $1,044 per year, with direct deposits already sent out to those who applied before March 10 and paper check recipients set to start receiving their rebate on April 15.
Finally, Alaska is still sending out its Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) from 2022, with eligible applicants receiving their payment on April 20 or May 18, depending on when they received the “Eligible-Not Paid” status. However, it is important to note that recipients may face a big tax surprise. For those looking for more information, there are 12 states offering payments to parents worth up to $1,000, and direct payments worth up to $3,600 are available to millions of eligible individuals.
