The threats came amid a flurry of false information surrounding the attack last week at the private religious school that left six people dead. Right-wing extremists launched a line of argument that falsely claimed transgender individuals were responsible for a spate of recent mass shootings when police there revealed that the murderer had identified as transgender.

Maryland man: What was the threat?

The threatening voicemail was placed late on March 28th evening at the Human Rights Campaign office in Washington, a group that advocates for LGBTQ rights.

According to the FBI’s accusations, the message said, “You guys going to shoot up our schools now? Is that how it’s going to be?” The Maryland man caller allegedly continued by saying, “We’ll cut your throats. We’ll shoot you in the head. We’ll slaughter you back.”

Maryland man charged over threat

Federal charges against Nettina for sending obscene messages over state lines with the intent to cause harm carry a maximum five-year jail sentence.

The claimed threats are merely the most recent escalation in a nationwide pattern that has seen far-right extremists attack LGBTQ gatherings and organizations. White supremacists, Proud Boys thugs, and neo-Nazis have turned drag events around the nation into targets for firebombs, armed confrontations, and protests.

Nettina made his court debut on Monday and is still being held.
