The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, is a federal program administered and managed by the state. That is why you might have heard different names about the same SNAP, also previously called Food Stamps or coupons.
In California, the SNAP benefits program is known as CalFresh. This program is only offered for individuals or households with low income. But, not all low-income individuals or families are eligible for this program.
What is the Maximum Gross Income Level to Claim CalFresh?
According to the Department of Public Social Services in Los Angeles, California, the eligibility to claim SNAP benefits depends on the number of people. The first requirement is the gross monthly income of the individual or household.
A household with only one member should have a monthly maximum gross income of $2,266; $3,052 for a two-member household; $3,840 for a three-member; and $4,626 for a four-member household. Meanwhile, a family of five members can claim the SNAP benefits if they earn up to $5,412 per month and an additional $788 for every additional member.

What is the Adjusted Net Income Level to Claim SNAP Benefits in California?
To claim SNAP benefits in California, an individual should have a maximum net income of $1,133. Its amount increases as the family size increases. A two-member household should have a maximum net income of $1,526, $1,920 for a three-membered household, and $2,313 for a four-member household. Households with five members should have a maximum net income of $2,706; each additional member increases by $394 in the net income limit.
Other requirements to claim the SNAP benefits
Apart from the gross and net income limits, other requirements should be complied with to claim the SNAP benefits, including adults aged 16 and 59 who must be employed. For adults exempted from work, such as those older than 60 or a person with a disability, the SNAP office will base the benefits on the net income limit to check eligibility.
Other bases for eligibility requirements are if the applicant is an able-bodied adult without dependents, which refers to those adults who can work, are aged 28 to 49, and have no dependent children. Applicants in this group can only claim the SNAP benefits for three months during a 36-month period, except in some circumstances.
