Normally only open on weekdays, the IRS is opening dozens of TACs across the United States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico to assist taxpayers this tax season. The IRS has confirmed that more than 40 TAC locations were open on February 11 and that 58 are set to open on March 11.

In a news release, acting IRS commissioner Doug O’Donnell said, “These Saturday openings are part of the extra steps the IRS is doing to make a difference for taxpayers.”. This filing season and beyond, these walk-in facilities are crucial, and funding from the Inflation Reduction Act is enabling us to hire more personnel across the country to better serve taxpayers. The public can access the services they require during these extended Saturday hours.

2023 Tax Brackets

On a yearly basis the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) adjusts more than 60 tax provisions for inflation to prevent what is called “bracket creep.” Bracket creep occurs when people are pushed into higher income tax brackets or have reduced value from credits and deductions due to inflation, instead of any increase in real income. There are additional free tools available to assist you in preparing and filing your 2022 tax return, even though tax return preparation is not a usual function offered by IRS TACs.

You can use IRS Free File, which is available in both English and Spanish if your income in 2022 was $73,000 or less. Volunteer income tax assistance centers (VITAs) and tax counseling for the elderly (TCE) locations also offer free assistance. For 2022, the minimum income to qualify for VITA help is $60,000.

According to the IRS, not all TAC locations will offer tax return preparation services. For information on services offered at certain TACs, visit IRS.gov or get in touch with your neighborhood IRS office.
