As per a recent press release from Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission will provide emergency SNAP food benefits totaling over $345.9 million for February as the last extension of benefits.
The news release states, “Congress already passed legislation to declare February 2023 as the final month eligible families may receive emergency SNAP payments.”
It is anticipated that the allotments will benefit around 1.6 million Texas families. The US Department of Agriculture gave the Texas Health and Human Services Commission permission to increase the maximum amount of SNAP payments based on family size.
According to a press release, all SNAP families will receive emergency allotments totaling at least $95 by February 28.
The announcement added that the $95 emergency allotments are in addition to over $9.7 billion in benefits already given to Texans because the Families First Coronavirus Response Act was established in April 2020.
“According to the press release, beneficiaries would no longer get additional benefits because of federal legislation passed by Congress. This benefit adjustment cannot be challenged,” the release added.
