In the lack of communication or assistance from Vice President Kamala Harris, the White House border czar, Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) has appointed a former Border Patrol agent to lead the state’s response to the problem.
A post that Abbott made and that resembles the federal one that President Joe Biden created early in 2021 was filled by ex-agent Mike Banks, who left his position in January. Abbott announced on Monday afternoon.
In Texas, stopping illegal immigration seems to be a full-time job. A leader whose primary responsibility is responding to President Biden’s open border policies is needed for the role, according to Abbott, who made the remarks at a press conference held outside in San Benito.
Banks will be responsible to Abbott and work with the governor’s office to stop and address illegal immigration across the border with Mexico.
After 23 years of service to the federal law enforcement agency, Banks retired around ten days ago, according to Abbott. He was given jobs with the Border Patrol in the Texas Rio Grande Valley, Arizona, California, and the national office in Washington.
“Making Texas the least attractive location for illegal immigrants to cross is my top aim. It won’t be too tough, in my opinion “added Banks, who was speaking when state-funded construction workers covered large border fence panels. “I’m going to apply the necessary laws that are in effect and that must be applied.”
Banks will have a base in the Rio Grande Valley city of Weslaco, Texas, and regularly travel inside and outside the region.
