The Korean-American Club has made available more than a dozen letters that former U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un received.
Authorities recovered Trump’s self-described ‘love letters’ from Kim from his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida. According to Star and Stripes, in the letter, Kim allegedly expressed his desire to speak with Trump on the denuclearization of his impoverished nation while ignoring Moon Jae In, the president of South Korea at the time.
2 months before their first encounter at the Singapore summit, Kim wrote to the former US president in an April 2018 letter, stating, “I am willing to collaborate with your excellency including all my heart and commitment” to complete an impossible task. On the same day, Trump responded that he was “glad to meet” with Kim to “dramatically” enhance national relations.
4 months later, Trump sent Kim a second letter in which he showed his gratitude for returning 55 skeleton remains that were believed to belong to American soldiers who died in the 1950–1953 Korean War.
In a recent letter in August 2018, Trump said, “Thank you for fulfilling your promise to begin the repatriation process of our warriors. He continued, “I want to see you soon.”
