The Shooting of the Director of “Rust” by Alec Baldwin will not Result in Charges

Alec Baldwin will not face charges for shooting the movie’s director, Joel Souza, according to reports, with the actor being charged with 2 counts of involuntary manslaughter in the murder of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the Rust set in 2021.

Although evidence suggests that Souza and Hutchins were shot by the same bullet, the Santa Fe district attorney said there was no criminal in connection with Souza’s event, according to TMZ. Also, the office informed the media outlet that the only defense for Souza’s gunshot is “unintentional battery,” which is false. Baldwin cannot be charged with battery because it must be planned to be charged with battery, and Baldwin had no such purpose of harming anyone.

Late this week, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, an armorer on the Rust set, and Alec Baldwin were each charged with involuntary manslaughter. Mary Carmack-Altwies, the First Judicial District Attorney for New Mexico, made the announcement.

The district attorney stated in her statement that “everyone who handles a gun must make sure if they are going to touch that gun, point it at someone, and pull the trigger – that it is not going to launch a projectile and kill someone.” She added that Hutchins is the real focus of the investigation.
