SNAP Replacement Benefits

Millions of American families in the country rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to buy their food every day. This is a federal program that makes sure that each American family has nutritious food to eat every day.

Recently, Oregon was affected by inclement weather and power outages. Many of the residents lost the much need food they bought through the use of SNAP. To address this problem, state officials find a way to find to help its residents.

In a published article in News Watch 12, SNAP beneficiaries who lost their food due to recent windstorm and ice storm-related power outages are now eligible to file for replacement benefits from the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS).

How Much They Can Claim?

Residents who lost their food because it is no longer safe to eat and disposed them can request that replacement benefits be issued for the cost of the food lost. According to the same source of reports, they can claim replacement benefits good for one month or equivalent to the food that they lost. Officials also clarified that they only have 10 days to request food replacement benefits of the food loss.
