New Study Shows: Majority of Voters in Miami-Dade Oppose the Permitless Gun Law

As per recently revealed polling data, about the same number of Miami-Dade voters support stricter gun laws as they do legislation that would allow residents of Florida to carry hidden weapons without a permit.

Early last month, the New York-based public relations and research company Global Strategies Group polled 500 voters on behalf of Giffords, a nonprofit advocacy group that works to advance gun control laws.

At a 95% confidence level, the margin of error was 4.4%.

According to polls, 68% of participants 71% of registered Democrats, 65% of registered Republicans, and independent voters are opposed to permitless carry. This includes more than 50% of Miami-Dade voters who supported Governor Ron DeSantis’ re-election; 60% of them say they oppose lax carry regulations, and 53% say they “strongly oppose” it.

They didn’t know more about the policy at that point. Voters’ opinions of the proposal decreased even more as they learned more about “constitutional carry,” which would let anyone with a valid firearms permit carry a loaded weapon in public. Voters’ total disapproval increased by 12 % to 80% after hearing what such a law would permit and examples of those who would profit from it.

With more knowledge, voters in important voting blocs that helped DeSantis win in Miami-Dade this year, where he received 55.3% of the vote to Charlie Crist’s 44%—became less supportive of no-permit carry.

After learning more about permitless carry, 81% of respondents identified as Hispanic respondents, along with 76% of no-party voters, 76% of ticket-splitters, and 72% of voters with low turnout.
