A North Carolina woman murdered the 4-year-old daughter of her boyfriend. Authorities said that the girl’s body was covered with bruises.

North Carolina Woman Murdered a 4-Year-Old Girl

A North Carolina woman, Chelsea Lee Crompton, was arrested and charged after investigators found that she murdered the 4-year-old daughter of her daughter. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office announced her arrest on Friday.

The victim, Hazel Lidey, was covered with bruises when the EMS responders arrived at their home. She was rushed to the hospital to be treated but died days after, according to a recently published article in Law & Crime.

In the same source of the report, the deputies and the EMS responded after they received a call about an unconscious child. They both arrived at approximately 2:12 p.m. at a home on Hill Haven Drive in the community of Vale where they found the victim.

Sheriff’s Office Released a Statement

Sheriff Don Brown said, “Our communities have been shocked by the senseless violence that caused Hazel’s death. We mourn with the Lidey family as they grieve the loss of their child. Justice for Hazel.”

The sheriff’s office said on Tuesday, before Crompton’s arrest said, “This child was transported to an area hospital where she remained until passing away early Sunday morning, 11/20/2022. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division has initiated an investigation into this matter. Investigators are awaiting a report from the medical examiner. Foul play is suspected. Information concerning possible suspects and or pending charges are not being released at this time.”

In a document obtained by a news outlet, it was stated, “The child was reported by EMS to have suffered trauma-related injuries, due to the presence of bruising all over the body.”

Investigators also said, “Crompton, a girlfriend of Lidey’s father, was apprehended without incident at the residence of a family member in Madison County and is presently incarcerated in the Catawba County Detention Facility.”
