Extra support amounting to $500 will be given as a one-time payment to qualified residents in Tennessee this December.
$500 Extra Support in Tennessee
Thousands of families who get monthly financial assistance via the state’s Families First program are receiving additional aid from the Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS). As of December 1, 2022, households having a case in the Families First Program has already received a $500 one-time extra payment on their current Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards.
Moreover, from December 1, 2022, this one-time payment will be given. Before the holiday season, the payment will give nearly 24,000 children in participating Families First households additional support, according to a published article on the official website of the TN Department of Human Services.
TDHS Commissioner Released a Statement
TDHS Commissioner Clarence H. Carter said, “We serve some of the most economically vulnerable families and children through the Families First program and recognize the challenges they’re facing. Keeping up with the demands of the holiday season can introduce additional hurdles in caring for children, such as accommodating school breaks, providing extra meals, and so much more.”
He also added, “This one-time boost in financial assistance is intended to help Families First participants overcome these temporary hurdles, positioning them to start the year off strong.”
