A few new groups stand to benefit from the monthly payments worth up to $500 this new year.
Back in 2022, various states kicked off universal basic income (UBI) programs, this acts as a set of recurring payments as opposed to one-off stimulus checks.
This year 2023, payments that are monthly are set to continue, with a few new cities sending out their first set of payments to residents in need this January.
1. Chelsea, Massachusetts: An amount of $200 and $400
Back in December, the city kicked off the second phase of the UBI program which gives over 700 residents up to $400 in monthly payments. To be qualified, you need to be a resident of Chelsea that earns less than 30% of the area’s median income.
The thresholds is depending on the number of people present in homes, which is as follows.
• Household of one: $29,450
• Household of two: $33,650
• Household of three: $37,850
• Household of four: $42,050
• Household of five: $45,450
• Household of six: $48,800
• Household of seven: $52,150
The family size is the basis of the monthly benefit. If households of one will get per month an amount of $200, households of two will get $300, and households of three or more get $400. For those who meet the requirements can apply online through Friday, January 6 at noon. The payments will also go out on March 2023.
2. Coachella, California – $400
Another round of monthly payments is starting to go out in Coachella, California. The help per month equals $400 and will give support to 140 families for about two years.
The participants can choose to have their funds deposited monthly into their checking account or loaded onto a prepaid card that they would receive in the mail.
To see if you’re qualified, you must meet all of the requirements :
– Must reside in the city of Coachella, California
– Be 18 years of age or older
– Have a current non-expired government-issued photo ID
– Have at least one child under the age of 12 who was living in your household in 2021
– In 2021, earned less than $75,000 or have a total household income in 2021 that is below $150,000
– Filed a 2019 or 2020 tax return or gave the IRS information as a non-filer in 2020 or 2021-
The applications ended on Friday, November 11, and these are no longer being accepted. Participants began to get notified of selection on December 27.
3. Alexandria, Virginia – $500 per month
The program ARISE in Alexandria, Virginia will give almost 170 people $500 in monthly payments for two years. Your eligibility depends on residents of Alexandria’s earnings. This must be at or below 50% of the area’s median income. The threshold for every household of one is $49,850.

The applicants must be also at least 18 years old. The city already stopped accepting applications in November. According to program officials, those who are or were selected would have been notified in December by phone, email, and text, assuming that they were provided by the applicant.
