Another program called universal basic income (UBI) they have just been approved recently with a budget amount worth $5 million budget. There is more approval needed for this to be complete.
The Mayor named Tishaura Jones does still have to approve the measure of this to finalize the details. Meanwhile, the Aldermen in Missouri’s that is St. Louis Board voted for approval of the $500 monthly payments to more than 440 families.
If this is passed, the $5 million will be set to be put towards the households providing low-income families with the payments for around 18 months. The money that has come from the aggravating pandemic recovery funds will be used to help and support the families who are still recovering from financial losses and struggles due to the pandemic.
26th Ward Alderwoman Shameem Clark Hubbard said that when you look thoroughly at the allocations, the departments are going in, the work that they are already doing, and the way that this is going to build capacity, he said it’s hard to not get excited. But there will be no strings attached to the payments they are using and no limits on what they can be used for what they are doing.
Who Is Eligible For This
The parents and guardians of children with low incomes that are in city public schools are qualified for the payments. The residents must also damage their finances due to the COVID-19 Pandemic which makes less than 170 percent of the federal poverty line. This has been estimated at $47,000 for a family of four.
