The 25-year-old Jaylan Davis is accused of murder and other serious crimes. Davis was processed out of the Mecklenburg County Detention Center on Thursday, according to deputies with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Murder Suspect Mistakenly Released

After a court ruling stated that the charges against him had been dropped. However, officials said those charges were not dropped and that the order was a typo. Those who may “observe or encounter” Davis are urged to phone 911, according to a social media advisory sent by the sheriff’s office on Friday night.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden stated that Davis had returned to the jail facility early on Saturday morning. Though I’m relieved that it doesn’t seem like anyone was hurt, I’m sure the families involved went through a rollercoaster of emotions. Although our criminal justice system will never be perfect, McFadden said we will draw lessons from this event and make improvements to our procedures.

He is being detained without bond once more. His subsequent court date is set on April 17.
