Before calling the IRS, keep in mind that the agency has been struggling to field calls due to the amount of traffic. Trying to get a representative might take a considerable amount of time.

The main IRS line is open from 7 to 7, Monday through Friday, local time. You have to wait an average of 13 minutes in line during the tax filing season – January to April.
