Castaic Animal Care Center offering reduced cat adoption fees for “Adopt a Shelter Cat Month”Brianna Bricker June 8, 2019 0 COMMENTS
To celebrate “Adopt a Shelter Cat Month,” all seven of the Los Angeles County Animal Care Centers — including the Castaic Animal Care Center — are offering reduced adoption fees for cats and kittens.
During the month of June, all cats and kittens at the Castaic Animal Care Center can be adopted for a $20 fee, with some residential areas requiring an additional $5 pet license fee. The normal adoption fee can cost up to $115.
“[We] wanted to do something to encourage people to adopt,” Castaic Animal Care Center manager Karen Stepp said.
The adoption fee includes your kitten’s spaying or neutering, vaccinations and microchipping, which are all taken care of before you take your cat home. The fee also includes a free veterinary exam with one of the center’s participating veterinarians.
“Part of the reason we have so many cats is because of [Southern California’s] warmer climate,” Stepp said. “In most of the country, they have a kitten season in the spring and summer, but here, we have kittens being born year-round.”
Stepp encourages anyone interested in adopting a kitten or cat to come to the Castaic Animal Care Center or one of the six other Los Angeles County Animal Care Center locations. For those willing to make the drive, the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center is currently offering totally free cat and kitten adoptions this month.
“They are so overwhelmed with the number of cats they have,” Stepp said.
A list of pets available for adoption at both the Castaic Animal Care Center and at other Los Angeles County Animal Care Center locations is available on their website. The Castaic Animal Care Center is open from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Friday to Sunday.
