Rep. Katie Hill (D-Agua Dulce) has been assigned by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) to serve on the House Armed Services Committee.

“Our district has more veterans per capita than almost anywhere across America, and our region is home to mission-critical defense and aerospace bases, facilities, and businesses,” Hill said. “The work of my constituents does more than support our local economy — it secures our nation and our world.”

The United States Census Bureau estimates that there are about 29,000 veterans in the 25th Congressional District.

In addition, the district is home not only to land surrounding Edwards Air Force Base, but also to several aerospace manufacturers such as Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman. In 2015, aerospace and navigational equipment exports from the district to China alone totaled $57 million, according to the U.S-China Business Council.

The previous representative for the 25th Congressional District, Steve Knight, also served on the Armed Services Committee.

“The Armed Services Committee was my top priority assignment because our district deserves a seat at the table in shaping smart and strategic national security policies and because our service members, veterans and their families at home deserve an unwavering voice in Washington,” Hill said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to bring our community’s priorities to Congress and advocate for us at the highest level.”

Katie scored very high with Peace Action, the nation’s largest and oldest peace organization, during her campaign. I hope she will reign in the influence of the MIC on our politicians and shift their bloated budget to green energy and infrastructure projects.
