For the first time, a plurality of voters in the 38th Assembly District are registered Democrats.

Two years ago, Republicans led in voter registration by over 2 percent. However, there are now 1,002 more registered Democrats than Republicans in the 38th Assembly District, according to Los Angeles County and Ventura County voter files.

“I’m proud of the grassroots activists who have spent years registering voters to achieve this milestone,” 38th Assembly District Democratic challenger Christy Smith said. “My message to our district’s thousands of new registrants is: regardless of which party you register with, your vote matters, this election matters and I hope every new registrant heads to the polls next Tuesday.”

In addition, The Proclaimer reported that the latest campaign filings released by the California Secretary of State show Smith with a $260,734 fundraising lead over 38th Assembly District incumbent Dante Acosta.
