Program that Gives $200 Monthly Direct Payment Has Been Launched
The Local Sound Collaborative, a music and arts group in Rochester, New York, is running the pilot program for guaranteed income. The cooperative started a program that gives $200 monthly direct payment to five people who take part in 2022.
Now that Local Sound is growing, they are taking applications for six more people to live there. Details about the program say, “These programs build safety nets to make sure artists don’t fall below a set income floor over time.”
“They help people plan for the future and grow an industry like the music business, which often involves a lot of financial risk and uncertainty.”

Community Criteria for Monthly Direct Payment
Whether or not you get in will depend on a few things. This includes living in the Greater Rochester area and being a part of the local music scene. This also includes those of studio musicians, production engineers, sound technicians, and among other roles.
To join, you must also be at least 18 years old. Six people will be able to join the program, but three spots will be set aside for artists of color. Those who are eligible can apply online until 11:59 p.m. on June 3.
By September 3, they will talk to everyone who applies. If chosen, you will find out on November 1 and have to sign a grant agreement. On December 1, the first payment will be made. The $200 monthly direct payment will then be given to the participants every month for a year.
