A 20-year-old woman named Kaylin Gillis was fatally shot by a homeowner in Hebron, upstate New York, on Saturday night after she and three friends mistakenly pulled into the wrong driveway

Gillis and her friends left the property and eventually connected with 911, but she died after police found them and performed CPR. Monahan was uncooperative with authorities and was taken into custody after an hour of negotiations. He has been charged with second-degree murder but has not provided any explanation for the shooting.

Washington County Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy stated during a press conference that the incident happened in a rural area with limited phone reception. Gillis and her friends were only in the driveway for a short time before realizing they were at the wrong address.

Murphy emphasized that there was no threat from anyone in the car and no reason for Monahan to feel threatened

Gillis was described as an innocent young woman who came from a good family. This incident comes days after 16-year-old Ralph Yarl was shot and injured in Kansas City, Missouri, after mistakenly going to the wrong house to pick up his siblings.

The two shootings highlight the dangers of gun violence and the need for gun safety measures.
