2 extremist Trump followers who planned to blow up Democratic Headquarters were jailed for their involvement in a 2020 political “war”

Over their parts in a firebomb conspiracy aiming the California Democratic Party offices after the 2020 presidential election, which they claimed was robbed from Donald Trump, a federal judge in California sentenced 2 men to many years in prison.

When the two struck plea deals, U.S. District Judge Charles R. Breyer authorized Ian Benjamin Rogers and Jarrod Copeland to fulfill their terms, according to federal authorities.

In May of last year, Rogers, 46, entered a plea of guilty to conspiracy and other federal firearms crimes. Copeland, 39, admitted confessed to the interference of justice and conspiracy in 2021.

According to a statement from U.S. Attorney Stephanie Hinds, the suspects stated that they meant to firebomb the headquarters of a political group to destroy it.

They decided to “go to war” because they believed it would be better to ruin their political competitors’ headquarters than admit defeat and depend on the democratic system to achieve change, according to Hinds. Ian Rogers and Jarrod Copeland would have a lot of time to consider the truth that using violence to effect political change in our democracy is not appropriate.

The men stated in court records, as per a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, that they planned to damage the John L. Burton Democratic Headquarters in Sacramento after the 2020 presidential election.

The 2 considered shooting gas cans from the front windows of the Democratic Headquarters building around November 2020 and January 2021.
